Chez Marco. 5 rue Thoumayne. Nimes

There are two reasons why one may expect waiters to be rude and condescending in an Italian restaurant: a) they happen to be the best looking, most efficient waiter for the best-tasting Italian restaurant in the world (which, trust me, is not in Nimes) or b) they have been allowed to behave as pompous asses for too long by the small-town locals who know they have about 1 option for late-evening dining in their nowhere burg.  Wait staff at Chez Marco clearly have been benefiting from this small-town solicitude for too long.  Together with the uninspired kitchen staff, they hold their bastion of complacency – a locale that owes its lasting popularity to the (perceived) sad lack of competition.
To my fellow small-towners I say: there are 14 pages of restaurant listings for Nimes. There's got to be better places to spend our pesos.
